On a particularly cold, extremely early Sunday morning in New York; I made my way to the Hauser and Wirth gallery for the Public School show. The brief from lead makeup artist Grace Lee was “anti-pretty.” The complexion was to be raw, meaning no foundation or concealer under the eyes. Only blemishes and redness around the nose were to be covered. To create a worn-in look for the eyes, charcoal grey liner was wrapped around the top bottom lash line and then almost all smudged off. Taupe coloured shadow and Baby Lips were applied to break apart the shadow and liner and add a sheen. The result was deconstructed tough girl makeup.
